Linking Documents in the Document Management System
The ability to link documents together is a key feature that helps to organize documents into logical groups. Links give users’ quick and efficient access to files that are related to the document they are working with no matter where the file is stored in the document management system.
For example, a master contract document may be linked to its amendments. The following describes how to link documents and how document links can be viewed.
Finding Linked Documents
The linked column visible in the folder view shows the total number of documents that are directly linked to that document. These links may be of either parent or child relationship.
Viewing the Linked Documents in the Document Management System
Creating a link between two or more documents in the same folder
- Select the files that are to be linked. At least two files must be selected.
- Click the Link button in the document management system toolbar. The user will be prompted to select the “Parent” document from the list of documents that have been selected. All other documents are automatically designated as a child documents to the parent document selected.
Parent- Child Relationships of Linked Documents
Linking maintains a parent-child relationship between the documents that are linked together. In other words, one document, the “parent”, will serve as the main document that all other files, the “children”, will refer. When linking two or more documents together the user must specify the parent document in the linking relationship.
Removing/Deleting Document Links
Using the instructions on how to view a link, open up the list of linked document s from the document that is to have its link removed. With the linked document view open select the document you want to delete the link for and click the Remove Link button. The link will be removed.
Linking Documents that are Filed in Different Folders
For documents that exist in different folders or areas of the document management system, place all documents into the document tray. Proceed to link documents by using the link button on the toolbar in the document management system.

Once the parent document is selected the linking is successful
