Workflow Document Management Software: How to Associate Workflow Templates with Different Document Types

The following article covers the steps required for setting up workflow / schema associations.

Why do I have to associate a workflow template with a document schema?
In order to make a workflow template available to end users for initiation it must first be associated with a document schema. An example schema / template association would be a 'Purchase Request Approval' workflow template associated with a 'Purchase Request' the document schema. This ensures that end users are able to only initiate workflows that are in the appropriate to the type of document they are working with.

How do I see which workflow templates associated with a document schema?
To view the workflow templates associated with a schema first go to the master list of document schemas by clicking on the Manage Schemas > Document Schemas option from the library administration tree. The master list of all document schemas will appear. Click on the name of the schema to view its details. The second last grouping shows the list of workflows associated with this schema.

How can I edit the workflow templates associated with a document schema?
When viewing the summary details of a workflow schema click on the edit link next to the 'Workflows Associated with this Schema' grouping. The workflow associations page of the document schema edit wizard will appear as per the below screenshot. Here you can see a listing of all workflow templates associated with the schema. It is these workflow templates that users will be restricted to select from when initiating a workflow for documents associated with this schema. You can see that you can also set the order of the workflow templates will appear in this list of possible workflows to initiate. Associating a new workflow template with the schema is done by selecting a template from the list of available workflows and clicking ‘Add to Schema’. Clicking save will save the schema settings.
