Document Type
Managing document type as part of the document and record management life cycle in the document management system.
Although a default document type is assigned to all documents that are added to the document management system at the cabinet or folder level, the type can also be assigned or re-assigned at the individual document level.
This functionality allows users much more control over the lifecycle of individual documents saved to the system. A user may change the type of the individual document to one different from the document schema to which it is assigned. Users can change an individual document from an offline document to an electronic document to a electronic record and back as necessary.
This is helpful for managing items like policies that may start their life as an electronic document, then after approval be made an electronic record and finally made into an offline document when it is superceded and the entire document is no longer wanted in the document management system. Making it an offline document will preserve a record of it (and where the user has moved it) in the document management system for future reference.
