Document Management: How Do I Access FileHold using the FileHold Desktop Application?

Prior to logging on to the library with the web client, you must obtain a logon URL from your Administrator and ensure you have a user account created on the FileHold Server. The FileHold Desktop Application is a windows desktop application that provides a rich user interface and drag & drop capability when interacting with the FileHold server. The FileHold Desktop Application is designed for frequent users of FileHold as opposed to the FileHold web client which is designed for casual user access to the library.

To access the FileHold library using the FileHold Desktop Application please complete the following steps;

  1. Confirm you have installed the FileHold Desktop Application. If you have not installed it use the following link for help on Installing the FileHold Desktop Application

  2. Double click on the FileHold desktop icon or FileHold toolbar icon to run the application. You can also run the application by selecting the FDA option from the Start Menu > All Programs > FileHold > FDA > menu.

  3. Under the File menu Select the 'FileHold Connection Options'. The FileHold Connection Options form will appear.

  5. In the FileHold Server Setting section enter the FileHold Server URL path as provided provided to you by your administrator.
    Note: under normal circumstances the FileHold server URL will be a server located at your companies hosting facility however if you are using a demo user account to access a demo server hosted by FileHold Systems use the following URL http://demo.filehold.com/FH/FileHold/

  6. Under the logon settings section select the Use My Windows Account Username and Password option if your administrator has configured the FileHold library to allow users to logon with your windows account OR select the Use the Following Username and Password to Logon option and enter the username and password as provided to you by your administrator.

  7. Click the OK button to save your settings and close the dialogue.

  8. Under the File menu Select the 'Logon to FileHold As #user name#' option to logon to the FileHold Library OR the 'Logon to FileHold As ... ' option, enter your username and password when prompted and click OK to logon to the FileHold Server.
