Document Management: What are the different
Methods of Accessing Documents in the FileHold Library?
Users can access documents in the FileHold Library by one
of 3 methods;
- Using a standard Web Browser
- Through MS Office Applications
- Or by using the FileHold Desktop Application (FDA)
What you
should know about the different means of accessing the system;
- A user with a valid account can use any one of the above methods to
access the same documents in the same library.
- Only the web client does not require installation of software on the
users machine. Access via the FileHold Desktop application and Microsoft
Office applications require the end user to run an installer on their
computer they wish to access the system from.
- As FileHold is a web enabled system, access to the library can occur
via anyone of these methods from your LAN, WAN Intranet or over the
Internet.
- The web client and FDA have nearly identical feature set. The main
difference is that the FDA is designed for power users requiring additional
tools for the adding and management of documents in the library en masse.
- To access the library using Microsoft Office the user must be running
Office 2003 and have Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or Visio applications
installed. Not all features available in the web client or FDA are available
when accessing the library using Microsoft Office.
