System Administration Overview

How do I access system administration functionality?

System Administration can be accessed by clicking on the System Admin button on the top right corner of the FileHold menu bar when logged onto FileHold using the web browser

This system administration section is only available to users designated as system administrators. Non-administrator users will not see the above links to the administration section. The different areas of the system administration section will appear in the tree menu on the left hand side.

What does a FileHold system administrator do?

System administrators create and manage user accounts, FileHold supports two types of user accounts:

  1. Locally Managed User Accounts - are user accounts that are added directly to FileHold and are independent of any type of directory server (including Active Directory).
  2. Domain User Accounts – are user accounts in FileHold that are synchronized with a 3rd party Directory Server (most typically Microsoft Active Directory) and would definitely require the support of the organizations IT department.

System administrators also create security groups which are typically users that work together and require a specific type of access permissions to the FileHold repository. These groups are used for both system permissions and membership of the Library hierarchy at the Cabinet, Folder and Metadata schema level. By the end of this guide you will have a thorough understanding of all of these concepts.
