Internet Explorer Troubleshooting

1) Downloading a file is blocked by Internet Explorer (IE) web browser when using the Web Client

Two easy procedures are documented below for this issue.

2) Making a setting or property or configuration change using IE in FileHold Web Client that when you check later, has not been made.

3) Contextual menus and links do not work after logging in with the Web Client using IE

WARNING: Your IE Browser may be locked down to prevent configuration changes. Please work with your IT help desk to resolve any issues with performing any of these tasks. This page provides information and suggestions as a courtesy, and FileHold support will not make these changes for you. All of these changes can be made in just a few minutes.

Solution for Issue #1: Downloading a file is blocked by Internet Explorer default security

Internet Explorer by default does not allow files to be downloaded from web sites or applications. There is a simple change you can make to the IE browser to allow the FileHold server document management application to download files using the Internet Explorer browser.

step 1) You can add the FileHold server name to Local Intranet security settings - and ensure that in downloads are permitted in advanced security in IE control panel > internet options.

(example: http://FILEHOLD )

Go to Tools > Internet Options

Select Local intranet zone

Click Sites

Click Advanced

Add http://filehold to the zone and click Add

Click close

Then click OK and OK to close Tools > Internet Options.

Then click the Security tab in the Internet Options Window

 Select Local intranet

Click custom level

Scroll down to Downloads - and ensure that Enable is selected for both Automatic prompting and File download.

Click Apply and OK to close the Internet Options for the IE browser

Step 2: Configure Pop up blocker to allow downloads

By default, Internet Explorer displays pop-ups that appear as a result of you clicking a link or button. Pop-up Blocker blocks pop-ups that are displayed automatically (without you clicking a link or button). If you want to allow a specific website to display automatic pop-ups, follow these steps:

Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, click Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.

In the Address of website to allow box, type the address (or URL) of the Filehold web site example: http://FILEHOLD you want to see pop-ups from, and then click Add.

 2) Solution for disabling Automatic cache in IE

To avoid weird situations where you make a change but the change does not stay when you verify your change. For example, you change a Cabinet membership property using the Web Client. Later, you look at the cabinet property and are amazed when you see the change you made, has actually not been made.

This is from the browser cache interfering with your work.

To set Internet Explorer to not cache webpages, click on "Tools" in the menu bar, then on "Internet Options". A box will pop up with a number of tabs -- click on the "General" tab.

You will see a section on this page called "Temporary Internet Files" with a number of buttons, including "Delete Cookies", "Delete Files", and "Settings".

Click on the "Settings" button, and a new box will pop up with a number of adjustable settings. Where it says "Check for newer versions of stored pages", select the option labeled "every visit to the page". Now press "Save" to exit all the pop up configuration windows.

3) Solution for when Web Client Contextual menus and links to System Admin and Library admin do not function.

This is an identical process to part 1 of the first solution. Javascript is often disabled by default with Internet Explorer.

You can add the FileHold server name to Local Intranet security settings - and ensure that in downloads are permitted in advanced security in IE control panel > internet options.

  (example: http://FILEHOLD )

Go to Tools > Internet Options

Select Local intranet zone

Click Sites

Click Advanced

Add http://filehold to the zone and click Add

Click close

Then click OK and OK to close Tools > Internet Options.
